TDM

Unity is opening on August 12th. Feel free to jump into our Test Drive to get a feel for how your character would interact with the others who have arrived. All potential players are welcome to jump in. The TDM does not cross over to in-game canon, so go nuts!
If your character is new to Unity, you can assume that they've woken up in an old, musty bed housed in a run down hotel that needs significant repairs. Unless they didn't - which is lined in one of the possible starters below. For a quick visual reference, you can look at the two photo galleries on the Setting page. The left is the hotel that they wake up in, and the right is the rest of town.
Although the Also Humans try their hardest to make sure that they stay on top of things, keeping an eye on a large group of people trying to build a new society takes a lot of work. Did they mention that they literally just figured out how this whole interdimensional travel thing works? So they forgot to stabilize a portal (or two), big deal. You know the saying - to err is human - and since they evolved from humans, really, it's your fault that everyone is in this mess. They can only work with the genes you gave them.
Anyway, a portal has seemed to open by itself and several nasties and baddies are pouring out, taking the town by storm. Do you fight? Do you try to lock yourself away and wait for the Also Humans to figure out how to get these rascals back to their proper universe? Feel free to use any creature you wish here, although if you're unsure we humbly suggest Gremlins. Gremlins are just awful.
During the evolutionary phase of becoming a more complex and intelligent species, the Also Humans have forgotten that regular humans and humanoids usually need things like water. Sure, you're on an island and surrounded by fresh, clean water on every side, but don't you people like it when it just falls out of the sky, or something? They can do that for you! No, no, they insist - you're doing so much for them, after all. Of course, by concentrating their efforts on such a magnificent storm, they've simply forgotten to put new arrivals in their proper place. They've woken up in the middle of the road - a very wet, dangerously close to flooding road.
The torrential downpour comes with nasty winds, ice cold rain, and floods, which wouldn't be that big of a deal if you could just stay inside. The problem with that though, of course, is that the buildings in this town are far past their glory days - it's hard to find one that actually has a functional roof or sturdy walls. Have you managed to find one of the few shelters available? Is there someone else in there? Perhaps you spotted someone outside getting swept away by the rain or flood… well? Are you just going to stand there or are you going to help them?
So you've either just arrived or you've been a part of the Unity Project for a little while now, and you've decided that you're going to start help with the rebuilding project. Good for you! You haven't done this before though, have you? Maybe you have and this just isn't your day… either way, considering the severe lack of proper tools, you've managed to do some real damage to yourself. Maybe you got a bad cut from a rusty nail sticking out of a wall, or you dropped something heavy on your foot. Maybe you're just a clutz and you fell down the stairs (there are stairs.) Whatever you did, you're in a lot of pain and you should probably see if someone can help you. Especially since first aid supplies are so scarce around these parts…
It could be your first time, it could be your 100th time, but the Also Humans have opened a portal to another world and you've gone through. Unlike the previous locations, though, it's not very clear exactly what you can bring back to help build your society back home… in fact, there doesn't seem to be much of anything. You've been wandering through a dark, gargantuan cave for hours now, and just as you were thinking about heading back you realize… you don't know how.
The Also Humans always bring their volunteers back to the main town once a portal is about to close, but that won't happen for days. There doesn't seem to be much to eat in here (I hear moss is packed with nutritional value) and there are strange noises coming from… somewhere. It's hard to tell exactly where, with the way every small sound echos in this place, and it's not like you can see it anyway, what with the strangely bioluminescent weeds lining the cracks of the walls being your only light source. Maybe you can eat that!
No, better get walking before you starve. Perhaps you'll find another lost soul, and see if you can navigate your way back to the portal together.

1. Forgot to close the door.
2. We forgot about the water!
3. Not much of a handyman.
So you've either just arrived or you've been a part of the Unity Project for a little while now, and you've decided that you're going to start help with the rebuilding project. Good for you! 4. Lost in another world.
It could be your first time, it could be your 100th time, but the Also Humans have opened a portal to another world and you've gone through. Post your character's name and fandom in the subject line, and feel free to play with any of the prompts to make them your own. Prose and action spam both welcome.
Please do not harm. Please eat and hydrate. You are appreciated. Good luck.

Natasha Romanoff | MCU | OTA (#4)
That's what she told herself as she turned another corner down the dark cavern, barely able to see where she was going with the only light being some strange, glowing plant matter nestled within the cave walls, and her steps halted suddenly when she thought that she had heard something up ahead. She didn't call out, because Natasha wasn't a stupid kid in a slasher film, but no matter how hard she strained to hear the only thing that came to her was complete silence. But she knew she heard something. That wasn't comforting at all.
She had come here because the idea of a fresh start was too good for her to pass up, but as she continued to move again with her fingers brushing against the cold wall to keep herself steady, Natasha couldn't help but wonder exactly how this was supposed to be better than getting shot. It was dark, it was damp, it was - gross, she realized, as her fingers ran through something slimy on the wall. Getting shot sucked, but at least when she got shot she knew where the wound was and how to take care of it. Right now, she had no idea how to get back to the damn portal that she came here through because, yes, alright, fine. She was lost.
She had to have been wandering around for almost two hours before she finally stopped, telling herself that she would have to keep her energy if she wanted to keep walking, so she looked down to try and get some sort of sense of what was beneath her before she slowly lowered herself to a sit, careful to make as little noise as possible because she had no idea what could be in these caves with her. 'Brand new start, my ass.' she thought to herself bitterly as she leaned back against the cool wall, trying to juggle her options in her head. She could call out but she wasn't ready to take that risk yet. Of course it was a cave. Natasha learned how to survive in the desert, or in a frozen wasteland. No one said anything about getting stranded in a cave. Who got lost in caves?
Her weariness had settled in and Natasha let her body shut down as much as she could without falling asleep before she heard something again, her head snapping up to attention as she strained to hear once more. It was consistent this time, with a pattern - footsteps. Natasha didn't move, instead trying to narrow their location despite the annoying echo, but they were definitely getting louder. They were coming her way.
She stood, because if it was someone she didn't want to run into it would be easier to run or fight if she wasn't on the floor, but she kept herself against the wall to hide in the shadows as much as possible until she finally saw the rough shape of a person making their way towards her. She could hide herself for now, but if they passed her she would definitely be seen, and if they were aggressive it would be best if she took the opportunity to surprise them. Natasha waited for them to get closer before she stepped out with a silent foot, her voice echoing like thunder in the silent cavern.
"You're looking a little lost."
no subject
Still, when the shadow stepped away from the wall he recognized it for the possible threat it was, stopping short and anchoring himself for an attack. The woman's voice surprised him, but he tried not to let it show as he forced his shoulders to relax.
"Nah, just taking in the scenery," he said, keeping his voice light. He nodded towards her. "You?"
no subject
His response would have gotten an amused smile from her if she hadn't been trapped in a cave for an unholy amount of time. "Looking for the hot spring," she deadpanned in return, adopting his light tone. "I was told caves were reserved for the most exclusive spas. Last time I use a travel agent." She fell silent for a moment until her echo fell away, eyeing the boy to size him up. He looked young, but not much younger than her, and his body language translated to more defense, than an offensive state. That, at least, was a little comforting.
"You from the island?" It was a vague question and she meant it to be. If he had been a part of the Unity Project, he'd know what she was talking about. If he wasn't, he'd most likely have no idea and Natasha would then know that she was dealing with an outsider. "Or are you a designated cave tour guide here to show me how to get the hell out?"
no subject
"Yeah," he said, giving her a small nod. "I'm from the island." So she was with the Project too. At least he could stop thinking of her as a possible threat. He shoved his hands in his pockets and shook his head. "I wish I could tell you how to get out, I've just been following the direction the moss is growing in."
It sounded reasonable in the beginning. Four hours ago. He sighed, raising his eyebrows and maintaining their deadpan schtick.
"There really a hot spring?"
no subject
She had been trying to look past him despite knowing that she wouldn't be able to see very far in the darkness, and when he spoke again she responded without hesitation. "Yeah, it's a few yards down from the water park." Her tone was flat and dry, but to those who knew her it would be easy to pick up the fact that she was amused. She finally stopped trying to see something, accepting that it was a futile effort, before her attention turned back to the young man standing before her. He was much more interesting to try and figure out anyway.
"After this you and I can get massages and seaweed wraps. Never had one before but for some reason it sounds a lot less gross now." She gave a nod of her head in the direction opposite of where he came from before she started moving; a silent invitation for him to join her. Safety in numbers and all that. Once he was closer she looked at him again, this time briefly before her attention turned back ahead, fingers moving to trace the wet wall and keep herself steady. "I doubt we're the only ones lost right now. It's like some Alfred Hitchcock version of those McDonald's playgrounds in here. With less pee and no ball pit."
She turned a corner, and in the process Natasha was struck with an idea. She started tearing the glowing moss from the wall as they moved, pleased to see that it stayed lit after being detached. "You got a name?" She might as well try to make conversation as they moved, stopping every so often when a particularly well rooted piece of plant matter needed more effort to get torn out. "Start pulling this stuff down," she instructed him, so used to giving orders that she didn't take into consideration that the stranger might not take kindly to it. "If we gather enough we might be able to get a makeshift torch going, it'll be easier for us to see."
no subject
"You know, I didn't think this could get much worse, but you're right. There could be pee and ball pits." Normally he wasn't exactly a talker, but it'd been hours since he'd seen another human being. He was grateful for the company. "My name's Roy. You?"
He looked doubtfully at the plants in her hand, but she had a point. They weren't going out after being detached from the wall. After a moment he moved to his side of the wall and begun pulling out plants. "You don't think this stuff is radioactive, do you?"
no subject
"Natasha." She introduced, holding the moss up in the air to see how far the light would be cast. It was working, but they would need more to get anything close to a decent illumination. She continued to harvest the plant matter out of the stone. "Dunno," she replied, voice lacking all concern. "Guess we'll find out if we start growing extra fingers." A few seconds passed as she glanced at Roy once more before giving a full smile.
"It's not radioactive, it's bioluminecent. It's not uncommon in dark environments, it's just a bacterial reaction within the plant. It's harmless." She continued to walk to lead the way, not wanting to take all of the moss off of the walls in one location in case someone else was lost in there. Turning a corner and finding a completely dark corridor probably wouldn't be welcome.
"So what sort of fighting do you do?" Natasha wasn't much of a conversationalist but she could at least try, and it was easiest to start somewhere that she was familiar with. "MMA? Martial arts?" She gestured lazily to his feet before looking back at his face. "Not everyone knows how to properly anchor themselves on wet stone when they're startled in a dark cave."
no subject
He raises his eyebrows in surprise when she asks him about fighting. As far as he can tell she shouldn't have any reason to know that about him, but then she gestures to his feet and he understands. "A little of both," he admits, moving down the new corridor they're in and picking up more of the plant. "My teacher wasn't exactly traditional."
He stops and looks back at her. "What about you? Usually takes one to know one."
